Ferry Health Raises $9M Seed Funding to Launch its AI Assistant to Book Your Medical Appointments

Ferry Health has raised $9 million in seed funding from leading investment firms to automate manual patient-facing healthcare appointment booking workflows using its AI assistant.

Ferry Health, founded in early 2024, has developed an agentic AI platform that acts as a real-time personal assistant for patients. Its agentic AI platform takes action on patients’ behalf, acting as their personal assistant for tasks like finding and scheduling care. Rather than just serving as a search directory, the platform utilizes agentic AI to take real-world actions like placing phone calls to verify provider availability and book appointments.

Through B2B partnerships with health systems, insurers, and care navigation platforms, Ferry Health is already live across all 50 states in the U.S. with active access for over 1 million people.

Backed by fresh capital, Ferry Health expects its user reach to grow fivefold to more than 5 million patients by the conclusion of 2026.

As traditional healthcare systems grapple with administrative bottlenecks and outdated provider directories, institutional investors are increasingly shifting away from passive informational tools toward action-oriented AI solutions.

The funding round was led by prominent VC firms with participation from angel investors. Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Index Ventures, Avid Ventures, Layout Ventures, SV Angel, Box Group, and Asymmetric Capital co-led the investment round, with participation from angels, including Jay Desai and the founders of Grow Therapy, Hex, and Chapter.

Inspired by Personal Family Caregiving: CEO Mehul Mehta co-founded the company with his brother Keyur Mehta and Andrew Buie after dealing with the administrative burden of organizing follow-up care for their father. “When we were dealing with my dad’s care after a hospitalization, we saw firsthand how much of the burden falls on patients and their families in between visits to the doctor’s office,” said Mehul Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Ferry Health.

Mehul Mehta said: “Finding specialists, understanding costs, dealing with insurance all required countless phone calls back and forth. It all adds up to a serious hurdle for people trying to access healthcare, and we saw an opportunity to rebuild the patient’s experience with agentic AI.”

While the Ferry Health platform is mainly used to find doctors and book appointments, select early-access users are currently testing the AI’s ability to handle more complex medical logistics. This includes deploying the digital assistant to schedule medical imaging appointments and coordinate necessary home health services, with plans to roll these advanced features out to a broader audience in the near future.

Navigating the healthcare system is becoming increasingly difficult for patients. The financial backing from these top-tier investment firms highlights a major shift in how the industry intends to solve this problem. The future of healthcare efficiency will no longer rely on search directories that still leave patients doing all the heavy lifting. Instead, the ambition is shifting toward automated assistants that can completely take over the frustrating phone calls and tedious paperwork that keep patients waiting for the care they need.

Medical appointment booking startups have secured a significant amount of funding so far this year, according to our recent funding insights. More recently, Prosper AI, a developer of voice AI agents to automate patient scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and claims without much human intervention, raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Base10 and continued support from Emergence Capital, Y Combinator, and Company Ventures.

In another deal, Assort Health, which built AI agents for the patient journey, raised $120 million in Series C funding led by Menlo Ventures. The Series C round values the company at $1.2 billion.

This latest Ferry Health funding round says a lot about where healthcare AI is heading right now. Patient access, scheduling, calls, follow-ups, and care navigation are becoming core areas where health systems want AI to take real work off the system.
